These investment losses would have been easily avoided if investors had seen that the 2021 profits were not generated by the everyday recurring business but instead from a single one-off tax-rebate. Something they couldn't rely upon in the coming years. Instead of trying (and often failing) to start you Instead of trying (and often failing) to start your own business, another option is to invest in other people's. Private companies make the transition to 'go public' and invite the public to buy slices of their business. Upon doing so, you immediately become a joint owner of that business. If the business does well and grows, your shares in that business will be worth a lot more money down the line. If you can pick the right businesses, you'll do very well for yourself. I tried starting my own business. It's stressful and painful. I tried property investing. But I got sick of the tenants. It didn't matter how great a landlord I was, some people just love to complain. It wasn't for me. I love investing in other people's businesses. They run the companies, and I just get on with my life. The CEO will even send me a report on how the business is performing. If I no longer like where the business is going I can sell my shares on the market. And if I am.happy with the company at any time I can increase my stake. They'll also often send me some of the surplus profit to pocket, just as a thank you for being a joint owner. Money I can use to buy more shares. And with a Stocks & Shares ISA the profit I make is tax-free. I've seen people start businesses that fail and they lose their life savings. If you have any surplus cash that isn't earmarked for expenses each month then it's good to go. You simply transfer the capital from your bank to your broker account, and from there you can invest it into stocks via a Stocks & Shares ISA. Super easy to do. But never invest money you might need in the near term. I've had clients who started investing and 3 months later they've had to withdraw it again because they need it. Don't have any surplus cash yet? Don't invest. You're probably not ready. Instead, focus on payment down high interest debt and building an emergency fund. THEN consider investing. That said, the sooner you start, the better. But they're a necessary evil I must endure. Free money I suppose.
